Stendhal is Maelle's signature nuke: extreme single-target Void damage on one hit. This guide covers how to unlock it, how the damage math stacks up, and a sample endgame loadout you can load straight into our calculator.
How to unlock Stendhal
Stendhal appears in Maelle's skill tree when you reach Act III of the main story. It costs 4 skill points and requires Percée or Burning Canvas first.

- Deals extreme single-target Void damage in 1 hit (8 AP).
- Removes your Shields and applies Defenceless to Maelle — it's an all-in attack.
- Using it shifts Maelle out of her stance (Stanceless), so fire it before banking on stance bonuses.
Why the damage stacks so high
Damage categories in Expedition 33 combine multiplicatively: base × skill multiplier × damage bonuses × crit × stance. Our engine models a ×1.5 crit multiplier and Virtuose stance as a ×2.0 damage multiplier, so a single Stendhal under full buffs slams into the 9,999 per-hit cap — bring Painted Power so the damage can keep climbing past it.
Sample endgame loadout
Esqium (Thank You Update) — converts spare AP above 4 into +50% damage each, applies Burn on Virtuose, and Marks all enemies with cheap skills.
Esqium →- · Painted Power — damage can exceed 9,999, uncapping Stendhal's burst.
- · Critical Burn — +25% Critical Chance on Burning enemies (Esqium applies Burn in Virtuose).
- · Glass Cannon — +25% damage, at the cost of taking 25% more damage.
The loop: apply Burn with Virtuose attacks, spend down to exactly 4 AP so Esqium converts nothing, then unload an 8-AP Stendhal into a burning, Marked boss with Virtuose up.
